They came in double canoes, searching northward into an unknown sea. Sailing on strange winds, paddling through doldrums, braving high seas and storms, they persisted in their quest for new land. Behind them lay the South Pacific islands their ancestors had discovered centuries earlier. Observing plover and other shore birds flocking together each spring and migrating northward, they may have concluded that land lay in that direction. Their spaceship was the voyaging canoe. Built with tools of stone, bone, and shell, assembled with the lashings of braided fiber, and powered by sails of plaited matting, it was the finest product of any culture that knew no metals. In these unfamiliar northern latitudes they were buffeted by strong prevailing easterly winds. When seas came over the gunwales, they bailed. When gusts ripped the sails, they made repairs. Lashings loosened by pounding waves were tightened or replaced. When drinking water and food supplies dwindled, they went on scant rations. And they endured. For these were the Children of Tangaroa, Sprit of the Sea, and of Tane, Tu, Rongo, mighty Spirits of Nature and and the most senior ancestors of the People as well as all other beings in the universe. While other explorers sailed with the comforting presence of the continental coasts on their beam, Polynesians faced the open ocean without fear as their own and only world. (To be continued.)

A fifteen year-old boy came home with a Porsche and his parents began to yell and scream, "Where did you get that car???!!!"
He calmly told them, "I bought it today."
"With what money?" demanded his parents. We know what a Porsche costs."
"Well," said the boy, "this one cost me fifteen dollars."
So the parents began to yell even louder. "Who would sell a car like that for fifteen dollars?" they said.
"It was the lady up the street," said the boy. I don't know her name-they just moved in. She saw me ride past on my bike and asked me if I wanted to buy a Porsche for fifteen dollars."
"Oh my Goodness," moaned the mother, "she must be a child abuser. Who knows what she will do next? John, you go right up there and see what's going on."
So the boy's father walked up the street to the house where the lady lived and found her out in the yard calmly planting petunias. He introduced himself as the father of the boy to whom she had sold a Porsche for fifteen dollars and demanded to know why she did it.
"Well," she said, "this morning I got a phone call from my husband. I thought he was on a business trip, but learned from a friend he has run off to Hawaii with his secretary and really doesn't intend to come back. He claimed he was stranded and asked me to sell his new Porsche and send him the money. So I did."

*** The first story *** A person checks into a hotel for the first time in his life, and goes up to his room. Five minutes later he calls the desk and say, "You've given me a room with no exit. How do I leave my room?"
The desk clerk says, "Sir, that's absurd. Have you looked for the door?"
The person says, " Well, there's one door that leads to the bathroom. There's a second door that goes into the closet. And there's a door I haven't tried, but it has a "Do Not Disturb" sign on it."
*** The second story *** A traveler pulls into a hotel around midnight and asks the clerk for a single room. As the clerk fills out the paperwork, the man looks around and sees a gorgeous blonde sitting in the lobby. He tells the clerk to wait while he disappears into the lobby. After a minute he comes back, with the girl on his arm.
"Fancy meeting my wife here," he says to the clerk. "Guess I'll need a double room for the night."
Next morning, he comes to settle his bill, and finds the amount to be over $3000. "What's the meaning of this?" he yells at the clerk. "I've only been here one night!"
"Yes," says the clerk, "but your wife has been here for three weeks."

little old couple walked into a fast food restaurant. The little old man walked up to the counter, ordered the food, paid, and took the tray back to the table where the little old lady sat. On the tray was a hamburger, a small bag of fries and a drink. Carefully the old man cut the hamburger in two, and divided the fries into two neat piles.
He sipped the drink and passed it to the little old lady, who took a sip and passed it back. A young man on a nearby table had watched the old couple and felt sorry for them. He offered to buy them another meal, but the old man politely declined, saying that they were used to sharing everything.
The old man began to eat his food, but his wife sat still, not eating. The young continued to watch the couple. He still felt he should be offering to help. As the little old man finished eating, the old lady had still not started on her food. "Ma'am, why aren't you eating?" asked the young man sympathetically.
The old lady looked up and said politely, "I'm waiting for the teeth.."

We had a business meeting with one of our subcontracters that suppots our computer system's software in my office on Thursday September 7. The attendees of our side were a vice president of our organization and an interpreter of Ms. M, who is a half of American & Japanese, & my coworker guy and me. And visitors were the CEO & Financial director of the British parent company & Asian regional director of Japanese guy & British president & Japanese director of Japanese subsidiary company who interpreted visitor's side.
I prepared a voice recorder, since I had to write a meeting minute afterward. Actually our vice president's English is very hard to listen even if he is very proud of his English. So that's a big problem to write a minute. Because I can't make difference bitween his pronunciation of 'f' & 'wh'. Thus I asked him to speak in Japanese and make Ms. M interprete his meaning in English thoroughly.
Ms. M is famous person in this blog providing us a funny American jokes. And the last person of my coworker was just smiling during the meeting as he can't understand English at all !
Almost all of the agenda were discussed with friendly. But at the almost end of the meeting, the earthquake occured. And British guys excited. The British CEO asked Ms. M "How often does the earthquake strike ?" But she was too confused by his question to make proper answer.

A teacher told her young class to ask their parents for a family story with a moral at the end of it, and to return the next day to tell their stories.
In the classroom the next day, Joe gave his example first, "My dad is a farmer and we have chickens. One day we were taking lots of eggs to market in a basket on the front seat of the truck when we hit a big bump in the road; the basket fell off the seat and all the eggs broke. The moral of the story is not to put all your eggs in one basket.."
"Very good," said the teacher.
Next, Mary said, "We are farmers too. We had twenty eggs waiting to hatch, but when they did we only got ten chicks. The moral of this story is not to count your chickens before they're hatched.."
"Very good," said the teacher again, very pleased with the response so far.
Next it was Barney's turn to tell his story: "My dad told me this story about my Aunt Karen.... Aunt Karen was a flight engineer in the war and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory and all she had was a bottle of whiskey, a machine gun and a machete."
"Go on," said the teacher, intrigued.
"Aunt Karen drank the whiskey on the way down to prepare herself; then she landed right in the middle of a hundred enemy soldiers. She killed seventy of them with the machine gun until she ran out of bullets. Then she killed twenty more with the machete till the blade broke. And then she killed the last ten with her bare hands."
"Good heavens," said the horrified teacher, "What did your father say was the moral of that frightening story?"
"Stay away from Aunt Karen when she's been drinking..."
